Restructuring and Reconstruction of the Pompidou Mourguet School Complex in Lyon
Project description
The new Pompidou elementary school is designed as a complementary element to the Mourguet nursery school, which is retained and renovated. The building is set at right angles on the street corner to form a protective enclosure around the playgrounds and to create a landscape at the scale of the block. The architecture is composed of simple volumes, built with masonry blocks and composite timber–concrete floor slabs. This hybrid approach combines the durability of a mineral façade with a reduction in the carbon footprint. The two-tone blocks establish a dialogue with the existing building and contribute to the coherence of the whole.
