Reconstruction and Extension of the Proudhon Secondary School in Besançon
Project description
The project consists in restructuring and extending the Proudhon secondary school, built in 1971 and now obsolete, while it remains in operation. Organised around a large cross gallery, the new facility accommodates 700 pupils, with classes for special needs pupils and disabled children, library, cafeteria, administration offices and sports areas. The main building, in prefabricated concrete, is retained, insulated from the outside and coated in white in a search for abstraction, while the new parts, built in timber, contrast with their dark cladding. A rigorous grid and a post-and-beam structural system ensure the coherence and adaptability of the whole.
