Denis Mukwege School Complex and Nursery in Melun
The school is the central element of the urban project for the joint development zone. In this evolving context, it arranges its programme around three south-facing courtyards and creates its own internal landscape. The alternation of built volumes and planted areas provides permeability at the scale of the block, crossed by a covered pedestrian walkway forming a forecourt. The timber interior fit-out, the custom-made furniture and the attention given to lighting and acoustic conditions shape spaces suited to learning. Hemp and straw insulation makes use of local resources.
