Hacine Cherifi Sports Hall in Rillieux-la-Pape

  • At dusk, the Hacine Cherifi Sports Hall appears as a low, elongated volume clad in vertical timber slats, punctuated by glazed bands at street level and clerestory windows above. Warm interior lighting and the golden wood façade contrast with the deep blue sky, while light trails from passing cars animate the urban intersection in the foreground.

Project description

In a heterogeneous urban environment, the sports hall forms a coherent whole with the neighbouring school complex designed by the practice. The buildings are arranged along a pedestrian lane that crosses the site and extends the existing public park, ensuring landscape continuity. The building is set into the slope on a concrete base, which reduces its perceived scale. Timber truss beams create a crenellated profile that brings in uniform north light. Making use of the depth of the structural sections, the envelope is insulated with straw. The construction logic remains visible and organises the spaces.
