The Parc des Îles centre
Communauté d’agglomération Henin Carvin, Nord, France

Aquaterra is part of a much larger park project: the Parc des Iles (Islands Park) designed by the Ilex landscape design firm. On the 45 hectare site, the scheme propose a play of islands and artificial lakes, linked together by the major routes that structure the area. The Maison du Parc forms an islet at the nerve centre of the site, duplicating the oval geometry of the landscape designers’ overall plan. It has been given a dark, mineral identity as an echo of the islands and the materials that compose the site, and its broad butterfly roof extends a welcome to the visitor. Dedicated to environmental awareness, the building is intended to be an evolving, multipurpose structure.
