Headquarters of subaquatic and submarine research
Marseilles, Bouches-du-Rhône, France

The renovation of Marseille's Estaque district, while respectful of the past, has inevitably been accompanied by a change of image. The former industrial port has been replaced by a marina, and a working environment has been transformed into one of leisure.
Conspicuous at the heart of this transformation is the building occupied by the Department of Subaquatic and Submarine Research (DRASSM).
The project has two principal facets:
The harbour boathouse, which is simple, sheltered, rational in construction, and utilitarian. It houses equipment and machinery, and moves to the rhythms of the arrivals and departures, with the main road to the north and the sea to the south;
A building in a more refined style, open to the outside world and with a distinct cultural status.
