Les Alouettes school
Lyon, Rhône, France

This educational complex has been developed as a "micro-city" with 3 separate components: the school itself, a gymnasium and a restaurant.
Each component projects into its surroundings. While occupying the allocated site, the building is also permeated by the landscape. The discontinuous, porous nature of the main external elevation reflects and structures the different modes of access to the nursery classes, the primary classes, the gymnasium and the multi-purpose facility. This permeability creates a distinctive spatial configuration. The school is neither a sanctuary nor a forum, but has something of each about it.
