This extension to an exisiting school is not just concerned with the treatment of the constructed elements, but also with the intermediate spaces that it frees up and brings to life. It cements the relationship between the old and the new, and at the same time creates microtopes conducive to mutiple scenarios of appropriation. Each component part of the programme has its distinctive features. The complex is like a village: the classrooms correspond to houses, while the activity spaces form the communal facilities. Each section is accompanied by dedicated extrapolations. On the street side there is an articulation with the public amenities, expressed in an urban style. On the inner, garden side, the architectural forms have been adapted to a smaller visual scale. The second theme of the project was dictated by the client's specifications, but also by our own motivations, both as architects and as citizens, to design environmentally sustainable buildings. 265 m3 of wood were used in the construction of the building. There is a ground-coupled heat exchanger, and photovoltaic cells for the production of electricity. Recycled rainwater is used in the sanitary facilities.
